Family Naturalist Series – Lichens!

Gain the knowledge and skills to enhance your adventures in the natural world through our SELT Naturalist Series. The second installment in our series will be LICHEN! We will start our day in our virtual classroom with a lichen terminology lecture and discussion.  First, we will explore the ambiguous question, “What is a lichen?” We will study lichen morphology and learn necessary identification skills.  At the end of the course, you will have the tools to identify the five lichens’ forms and determine which group any lichen belongs to.

A lichen self-guided tour will follow. Weather and health restrictions will determine the location. Multiple locations may be offered. Handouts and sample set will be provided before the class. You will need a magnifying glass, loupe, or magnifying app for the class.
