Birch Ridge Trails Field Trip

Join SELT’s Trails and Community Engagement Manager Yohann Hanley and Events & Outreach Specialist Derrick Trent at the Birch Ridge Community Forest for an exciting and information 3-mile hike along mostly moderate grades but with a half-mile long descent that is fairly steep and loose.

We will hike out Corridor 22, up the new Lookout Trail, and then return along Corridor 22. The Lookout Trail was created last summer to avoid the steep section of Corridor 22 shown on the map as Management Access. We will talk about why we moved the trail off the main access road, how we laid out the new trail to follow the contours of the land, creating proper drainage on the trail, and the after construction clean up work we did. We’ll come down the steep and loose section of Corridor 22 so we can look at the erosion issues present. We will also talk about culvert sizing and replacement as we walk through.
