Conserve the Barkley Property

Help protect a local Seacoast treasure!

SELT is working with our good friends at the Hampton Conservation Commission to conserve the Barkley Property along North Shore Road, a stunning 22 acre forest which includes a large portion of Hampton's beloved Grist Mill Pond. The property is rich in natural resources and wildlife habitat, and it supports a clean drinking water supply as part of the Town's Aquifer Protection Zone.

Landowner Anne Barkley has generously agreed to conserve this land for the benefit of current and future residents through the donation of a conservation easement to SELT and the subsequent sale of the protected land to the Town of Hampton, who will use it for outdoor recreation and educational opportunities.

While this land is valued at more than $1.3 million, Ms. Barkley is conserving it for a fraction of that value – making an incredibly generous gift to the community. The total cost to conserve the Barkley property is $268,000, which includes all due diligence, transaction, and stewardship costs. Funding will be a combination of public funds and private gifts.

Your contribution will be used solely for to acquire, conserve, and steward the Barkley Property in partnership with the Town of Hampton.
