SUMMARY:SELT Book Club with Guest Host Mary Magnusson: Diary of a Teenage Naturalist by Dara McAnulty
DESCRIPTION:A lifelong NH resident\, Mary Magnusson lives in Kingston where she gardens\, reads\, and hangs out with family and friends. She teaches English at Bedford High School\, and is currently teaching an elective focused on nature/environmental writing. \n“From sixteen-year-old Dara McAnulty\, a globally renowned figure in the youth climate activist movement\, comes a memoir about loving the natural world and fighting to save it. Diary of a Young Naturalist chronicles the turning of a year in Dara’s Northern Ireland home patch. Beginning in spring–when “the sparrows dig the moss from the guttering and the air is as puffed out as the robin’s chest”–these diary entries about his connection to wildlife and the way he sees the world are vivid\, evocative\, and moving. As well as Dara’s intense connection to the natural world\, Diary of a Young Naturalist captures his perspective as a teenager juggling exams\, friendships\, and a life of campaigning. We see his close-knit family\, the disruptions of moving and changing schools\, and the complexities of living with autism.” \nThis event will be held at the SELT downtown Exeter office. \nWe are still partnering with our friends at Water Street Bookstore in Exeter\, who will donate 20% of the proceeds from Diary of a Teenage Naturalist to SELT – You can order through their website (www.waterstreetbooks.com) or pick up in store. \n  \nRegistration required –www.tinyurl.com/seltoutreach

SUMMARY:SELT Book Club with Guest Host Roanne Robbins: Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy - Virtual and In Person!
DESCRIPTION:Join guest host and Master Naturalist Roanne Robbins for a discussion of Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy. \nFrom the author of the beloved national bestseller Migrations\, a pulse-pounding new novel set in the wild Scottish Highlands.\nInti Flynn arrives in Scotland with her twin sister\, Aggie\, to lead a team of biologists tasked with reintroducing fourteen gray wolves into the remote Highlands. She hopes to heal not only the dying landscape\, but Aggie\, too\, unmade by the terrible secrets that drove the sisters out of Alaska. Inti is not the woman she once was\, either\, changed by the harm she’s witnessed―inflicted by humans on both the wild and each other. Yet as the wolves surprise everyone by thriving\, Inti begins to let her guard down\, even opening herself up to the possibility of love. But when a farmer is found dead\, Inti knows where the town will lay blame. Unable to accept her wolves could be responsible\, Inti makes a reckless decision to protect them. But if the wolves didn’t make the kill\, then who did? And what will Inti do when the man she is falling for seems to be the prime suspect? \nPropulsive and spell-binding\, Charlotte McConaghy’s Once There Were Wolves is the unforgettable story of a woman desperate to save the creatures she loves―if she isn’t consumed by a wild that was once her refuge. \nWe are still partnering with our friends at Water Street Bookstore in Exeter\, who will donate 20% of the proceeds from Once There Were Wolves to SELT: Grab your copy in person in downtown Exeter\, or order through their website (www.waterstreetbooks.com)! \nThis event will be held VIRTUAL over zoom and IN PERSON at SELT’s new Mathey Center campus at 247 N River Road\, Epping NH. \n\nYou can read our COVID-19 Safety Policy here: www.seltnh.org/covid19/\nDonate to support SELT’s Outreach Program now: CLICK HERE\nRegistration required –www.tinyurl.com/seltoutreach
