SUMMARY:Photographing Birds in the Field with Tony Baldasaro *WAITLIST*
DESCRIPTION:This program is at capacity. Please join the waitlist and we’ll be in touch if space becomes available. \nJoin regionally renowned wildlife photographer Tony Baldasaro for a bird photography field trip. Tony will take you out to the northern side of the Burley Farms property to get up close with the fields\, forest\, and beaver pond and our avian friends who call these places home. Participants will learn more about finding the best scenarios for bird photography- including lighting\, bird position\, and bird action shots. This field trip is for photographers with at least some wildlife photography experience and the suggested equipment includes:   \n\nBinoculars \nDSLR or Mirrorless Camera \nLens long enough for wildlife photography (more than 200 mm).  Ideally this will be a zoom lens and not a fixed lens.  (see below) \nBecause we will be primarily photographing small\, fast-moving birds\, a zoom lens with a wide range of focal lengths is ideal.  (100-400\, 100-500\, 150 – 600 are examples).  Having a big\, heavy prime lens\, like a fixed 600mm\, will only slow our participants down.  \nA tripod is not recommended as it can slow down your photography.  Photographers should prepare to be handheld or use a nimble monopod.   \n\nWe hope you can join this educational and fun morning of bird photography at Burley! To learn more about Tony and his photography\, visit his website at tb3photography.com or find him on Instagram @tb3_photo.   \n\nDifficulty: Easy to Moderate\nDonate to support SELT’s Outreach Program now: CLICK HERE\nRegistration required: www.tinyurl.com/seltoutreach

SUMMARY:Mountain Resilience and Wisdom with Ty Gagne *WAITLIST*
DESCRIPTION:This program is at capacity. Please join the waitlist and we’ll be in touch if space becomes available. \nJoin us for an informative and entertaining evening with author and speaker Ty Gagne. \nFor Ty’s entire life\, he’s called New Hampshire home. His experiences in the White Mountains and his love of mountaineering literature have played a significant role in his education. Both have taught him important lessons about decision-making\, leadership\, risk-taking-and humility.  His professional work in risk management has let him use these lessons almost daily. \nSeveral years ago\, he decided to take things a step further by writing about real-life events that demonstrate the value of learning and heeding what the mountains have to teach us. In his writing and his talks\, he shares his own encounters with decision-making challenges in hopes of helping others assess and reflect on the experiences they themselves have had at home\, at work\, or in high places. \n\nDonate to support SELT’s Outreach Program now: CLICK HERE\nRegistration required: CLICK HERE TO REGISTER

SUMMARY:Birch Ridge Trails Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Join SELT’s Trails and Community Engagement Manager Yohann Hanley and Events & Outreach Specialist Derrick Trent at the Birch Ridge Community Forest for an exciting and information 3-mile hike along mostly moderate grades but with a half-mile long descent that is fairly steep and loose. \nWe will hike out Corridor 22\, up the new Lookout Trail\, and then return along Corridor 22. The Lookout Trail was created last summer to avoid the steep section of Corridor 22 shown on the map as Management Access. We will talk about why we moved the trail off the main access road\, how we laid out the new trail to follow the contours of the land\, creating proper drainage on the trail\, and the after construction clean up work we did. We’ll come down the steep and loose section of Corridor 22 so we can look at the erosion issues present. We will also talk about culvert sizing and replacement as we walk through. \nTo reference the map in the description above\, please go to https://seltnh.org/seltlands/birchridge/ \n\nDifficulty: Easy to Moderate\nDonate to support SELT’s Outreach Program now: CLICK HERE\nRegistration required: www.tinyurl.com/seltoutreach

SUMMARY:Edible & Medicinal Qualities of Fungi with Moose Mountains Regional Greenways
DESCRIPTION:In partnership with Moose Mountains Regional Greenways\, join a walk and talk with Rick Van de Poll at Birch Ridge Community Forest in New Durham. \nFungi have been used for tens of thousands of years for food and medicine. Yet every day we learn more and more about their nutritional and medicinal value as more and more people study\, eat\, and run trials on various fungi. With over 4 million species estimated on the planet\, there are as yet undiscovered benefits of using fungi for food or medicine. Beyond the well-known oysters\, boletes\, and chanterelles there are hundreds of good to excellent tasty treats in the mushroom world. Equally and perhaps more important\, beyond penicillin\, shiitake and chaga there are dozens of valuable fungi that provide critical immune support\, cancer-fighting capabilities\, and circulatory relief. Join us for an informative tour of a local conservation area for an in-hand experience with learning about this fascinating group! \nDr. Rick Van de Poll is the principal of Ecosystem Management Consultants (EMC) of Sandwich\, New Hampshire. He has taught Mycology at the undergraduate and graduate level for over 35 years. He has been on the Northeast Mycological Federation (NEMF) Faculty list since 1996 when he co-chaired the joint NAMA-NEMF Foray at Mt. Ascutney. He is currently the Acting President of NEMF and the Sandwich Area Mushroom Club in New Hampshire. \nTickets are $15 per person. \nRegistration required: CLICK HERE.
