SUMMARY:Bird Photography Field Trip with Tony Baldasaro
DESCRIPTION:Join regionally renowned wildlife photographer Tony Baldasaro for a bird photography field trip. Tony will take you out to the northern side of the Burley Farms property to get up close with the fields\, forest\, and beaver pond and our avian friends who call these places home. Participants will learn more about finding the best scenarios for bird photography- including lighting\, bird position\, and bird action shots. This field trip is for photographers with at least some wildlife photography experience and the suggested equipment includes: \n\nDSLR or Mirrorless Camera\nLens long enough for wildlife photography (more than 200 mm). Ideally this will be a zoom lens and not a fixed lens.  (see below)\nBecause we will be primarily photographing small\, fast-moving birds\, a zoom lens with a wide range of focal lengths is ideal. (100-400\, 100-500\, 150 – 600 are examples).  Having a big\, heavy prime lens\, like a fixed 600mm\, will only slow our participants down.\nA tripod is not recommended as it can slow down your photography. Photographers should prepare to be handheld or use a nimble monopod.\n\nWe hope you can join this educational and fun morning of bird photography at Burley! To learn more about Tony and his photography\, visit his website at tb3photography.com or find him on Instagram @tb3_photo. \n\nRegistration Required: CLICK HERE

SUMMARY:Watershed Walk at DeYoung-Fralic Conservation Area
DESCRIPTION:Join us to learn about the connection between land conservation and water protection while enjoying this high-ranking wildlife habitat. A conservation priority of Brentwood for many years because of its risk for development\, the DeYoung-Fralic property was acquired by SELT in 2017. It consists of 105 acres and 3\,700 feet of pristine river-frontage along the Exeter River. The site was a former gravel pit that had been closed by Brentwood but was restored for wildlife habitat. The area provides valuable water protection and a wildlife corridor as well as includes priority focus areas for local\, state\, and federally-protected bodies of water. This walk will be led by forester Phil Auger with an anticipated length of approximately 1.5 miles. \nThis is part of the Great Bay Changemaker Program’s Watershed Walks series. \n\nDifficulty: Moderate\nRegistration Required: CLICK HERE

SUMMARY:Winter Animal Tracking Hike At Burley Farms
DESCRIPTION:The winter season is an ideal time for being outdoors and exploring the local woods. Many mammals and birds are active during this time\, including bobcat\, coyote\, deer\, fox\, rabbit\, squirrel\, chickadee\, jay\, turkey\, and woodpecker. \nJoin us for an in-the-field winter animal tracking walk-and-talk hike at Burley Farms. The hike will be led by Nottingham resident Tom Eid. During the hike\, you will learn common tracking terms as well as animal movement patterns. For example\, mammals have four primary ways of moving: walking\, waddling\, hopping\, and bounding. \nA hand-out will be provided that explains mammal movement patterns\, a listing of mammals active in winter\, and foot print pictures of nine mammals active during the winter months at Burley Farms. \nNo animal tracking experience is needed for the hike. Steady rain/snow\, icy trail conditions\, or lack of snow will cancel the event. \nNo pets\, please. \nTom Eid is a certified naturalist with the Audubon Society\, a Coverts Cooperator with the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension\, a Land Steward for the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests\, and a Wildlife Steward for the New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game. \nHe is an active volunteer for the New England Big Trees program\, Nature Groupie\, Bear-Paw Regional Greenways\, and the Southeast Land Trust. \n\nRegistration Required: CLICK HERE\nDifficulty: Easy
