DESCRIPTION:Join us for a summer exploration of the remarkable landscapes and plant communities of the Howard Swain Memorial Forest in Deerfield. Nestled beside Pawtuckaway State Park\, this 89-acre preserve protects a fascinating mix of forest\, wetland\, and geological features shaped by an ancient volcanic landscape. The property includes portions of Rocky Ridge and the shoreline of Dead Pond\, a rare bog-like fen that supports distinctive plant communities and wildlife. \nAs we walk the trails\, we’ll observe shrubs\, ferns\, and wildflowers while discussing the ecological relationships that shape this unique landscape.
